Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens is an American artist and rapper, best than her stage name, Queen Latifah. Her career as a musician, film and TV artist has earned her two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also won a Grammy Award as well as six additional Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah is a Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. as a police officer as well as Rita, a teacher in Irvington High School. Latifah's parents divorced when Latifah was ten years old. was ten years old. Latifah was raised in the Baptist religion and went to Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Latifah is an Arabic term that translates to "delicate and gentle". Her aunt bestowed it on her at the age of eight. Latifah is a very tall 5'10 girl who was on the high school basketball squad. She sang "Home" from The Wiz in the course of a show in her high school. Latifah began beatboxing with the fresh rap ladies. Latifah became a member of the Flavor Unit's first group, which included several MCs as well as DJ Mark 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King, recorded an audition recording of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. He handed the recording over to Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music signed Latifah upon hearing the track. Her first single Wrath of My Madness, in 1988.
